Work Expands to Support Suicide Prevention and Children in Foster Care
Partners is thrilled to share that after equipping more than 10,000 health care providers with the tools they need to assist victims and potential victims of child trafficking, we are expanding our reach to include two additional vulnerable populations of children – children in foster care and children at risk for suicide. We chose these populations because children in foster care are especially vulnerable to trafficking, and trafficking victims and children in foster care are at significant risk for suicide.
Meet Our Champions
After an extensive search from within the NAPNAP membership, we have selected two teams of champion experts who will help us develop programming to educate health care providers about suicide prevention and children in foster care, focusing on how to best help these vulnerable populations using evidence-based, trauma-informed care. Our team of 10 foster care champions will be chaired by Dr. Brigit VanGraafeiland and co-chaired by Tracy Halasz. Our nine total suicide prevention champions will be chaired by Dr. Pamela Lusk and co-chaired by Dr. Dawn Garzon. These two teams officially begin their work on July 1. If you are interested in volunteering, email Eileen Arnold-Ley at earnold@napnap.org.
NAPNAP Partners’ Award-winning President
Partners congratulates President Dr. Jessica Peck for receiving the 2020 Texas Nurse Practitioners Year of the Nurse Award. She is also the recipient of the 2021 National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Policy Award for her tireless work to influence health policy and the 2021 AANP Sharp Cutting Edge Award for her efforts to advance the practice of pediatric nurse practitioners across the country. Dr. Peck has provided keynote addresses on trafficking at conferences this year for APSNA and SPN. We are proud to call her our president. The accolades are much deserved!

Core Competencies
The Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Trafficking in Persons (OTIP) released its new Core Competencies for Human Trafficking Response in Health Care and Behavioral Health Systems resource. Partners was pleased to have participated in the development and review of this critical publication.
These core competencies highlight skill sets for health care professionals to identify, respond to and serve individuals who have experienced or are at risk of forced labor and sexual exploitation. You can download the Core Competencies and find other important resources on the Partners website.
On April 22, Partners proudly co-hosted its first town hall with NAPNAP, which focused on the Core Competencies. Thank you to Dr. Hanni Stoklosa, the executive director of HEAL Trafficking, and Ashley Garrett of the National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center, for joining us in this important discussion. If you missed the original broadcast, you can watch it here.
