OUR MISSION
The mission of the Alliance for Children in Foster Care is to nurture a sense of belonging, connection and safety for children in foster care by 1) empowering all pediatric-focused advanced practice nurses to incorporate trauma-informed health care as an essential set of services provided to all children in foster care and 2) promoting equitable and optimal growth and development.
OUR STRATEGIC GOALS
Expand education regarding health care of foster youth, targeting all NPs, not just those who regularly care for foster youth.
- Finalize and publish the toolkit approved by the Partners board in 2024
- Finalize development of CE courses on foster youth and disseminate through NAPNAP’s PedsCE learning platform.
- Finalize train-the-trainer program modeled on the ACT Advocates program.
- Seek alignment with other Partners’ alliances, the NAPNAP Foundation and NAPNAP to expand reach.
Increase dissemination of ACFC resources at the state and local levels.
- Survey NAPNAP chapters to determine their needs related to caring for children in foster care.
- Conduct an outreach campaign to NAPNAP chapters to raise their awareness of available ACFC resources.
- Encourage NAPNAP chapters to appoint a representative to participate in ACFC’s train-the-trainer program.
Increase awareness of the health care-related disparities experienced by children in foster care.
- Promote awareness of healthcare-related disparities experienced by children in foster care in a train-the-trainer program modeled on the ACT Advocates program.
- Host a virtual education session during Foster Care Awareness Month and highlight the healthcare-related disparities experienced by children in foster care during the event.
Explore the most effective model of care for foster youth, adapt it for use by ACFC and then disseminate it to NPs.
- Investigate current models for caring for youth in foster care across the nation.
