Prevent youth suicide through evidence-based behavioral screening, support and interventions, and amplify the diverse voices of youth, promote resilience, decrease stigma and advocate for improved access to mental health services.
OUR STRATEGIC GOALS
Assess NAPNAP members' knowledge and needs regarding youth suicide prevention.
- Develop a comprehensive survey to evaluate members' current understanding of youth suicide risk factors, prevention strategies, and intervention techniques.
- Assess members' comfort level in addressing suicide risk with patients and families.
- Identify specific areas where members feel they need additional training or resources.

Develop and disseminate a comprehensive toolkit for school-based health care providers and clinics to manage suicide crises effectively.
- Include existing or create evidence-based screening tools for identifying at-risk youth.
- Provide step-by-step protocols for responding to acute suicide risk.
- Incorporate safety planning templates and lethal means counseling guidance.
- Include resources for collaborating with mental health professionals and community services.
Create a comprehensive, "plug-and-play" curriculum activity for Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) students aligned with AACN Essentials sub-competencies.
- Design a multi-stage case study focusing on suicide intervention and postvention.
- Crosswalk all deliverables with each case study stage with specific AACN Essentials sub-competencies related to mental health care and suicide prevention.
- Include assessment tools, decision-making exercises, and intervention strategies throughout unfolding case studies.
- Develop accompanying evaluation metrics to assess student sub-competencies.
- Create instructor guides with teaching points and discussion prompts.
- Ensure the case study is easily implementable across various graduate nursing programs.
